Made A Machine By Describing A Landscape was filmed on the road with Califone for the first 20 shows of their 2004 European tour (Heidelberg (Show #1) thru Berlin (Show #20), as well as in Hamburg and London).

The shows were recorded from at least 4 sources each night, including a DAT. The filmmakers have footage from at least 20 different songs, not to mention many different of versions of each. The crew continued to shoot with Califone for the second half of the 2004 East Coast tour and for much of the West Coast, Mid-west, and Southwest in June of that year.

Fans have been encouraged to contribute concert photos, posters, and other relics in exchange for “hearty thanks in the credits,” filmmaker Joshua Marie Wilkinson wrote.

Wilkinson is considering a series of live releases in select cities (showing the film and then Califone plays a live set after it). Cities that have been mentioned in connection with a short film tour have been: Chicago, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, and Denver.
